When you need PNG
SVG works well on websites, but many places, including word processors, chat apps, social networks and slide decks, can't insert SVG or don't display it properly. PNG works almost everywhere and keeps the transparent background.
Choosing a resolution
An SVG has no fixed pixel count, so you decide how large to draw it. 1× uses the size written in the SVG; 2× doubles the width and height.
- Web pages and chat: 1× to 2× is enough.
- Retina and other high-density screens, presentations: 2× to 3×.
- Images for print: 3× to 4×, and check the size you need in the print resolution guide.
If you need an exact pixel size, enter a max width or height. The image is scaled to fit inside it, keeping its proportions.
If the SVG looks wrong
If the SVG loads external fonts or image files, those parts may be missing or use a default font in the PNG. When exporting from your design app, convert text to outlines and embed images in the file.
