When it helps
- Posting a flyer or notice you received as a PDF on social media, a blog or in a chat
- Submitting documents to a form that accepts only images
- Using one page of a presentation as a picture in another document
Choosing a resolution
A PDF has no fixed pixel size, so you choose how large to draw it. 1× is 72 dpi, which makes an A4 page about 595 × 842 pixels. 2× (144 dpi) looks good on screen; for small print or images you will print, choose 3× or 4×. Higher resolution is sharper but makes larger files.
| Resolution | A4 page size | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| 1× (72 dpi) | 595×842 | Previews, thumbnails |
| 2× (144 dpi) | 1191×1684 | Chat apps, social media, blogs |
| 3× (216 dpi) | 1786×2526 | Documents with small text |
| 4× (288 dpi) | 2381×3368 | Printing |
Good to know
Once a page is an image, its text can no longer be selected or searched. Keep the original PDF. Converting long PDFs at high resolution takes a while; you can follow the progress in the list.
